In this creative no-sew fabric puzzle art workshop, participants will celebrate the 1980s Japanese art form of Kinusaiga, which started as a way to recycle beautiful old kimono silk scraps.
As a professional artist since 2003 who has been sewing since high school and who has been an upcycling artist since 2005, I'm always looking for fun and creative new ways to utilize scrap fabric. The beauty of Kinusaiga is that it is deeply rooted in the Japanese concept of mottainai (not wasting things that still have value), using scraps to create gorgeous images. When I was introduced to Kinusaiga by another artist friend, I instantly understood why she thought of me when she came across it — it's so aligned to my personal ethos.
Everyone participating will have the opportunity to make and take home their own one-of-a-kind 12"x12" finished Kinusaiga piece. All materials are provided, and there will be a variety of fabric styles and colors for all tastes and preferences.
I will have a handful of design options to choose from for those who wish to use one of my templates.
This workshop is great for teens up to 100+. No sewing experience needed. We love lefties, too! The workshop is for everyone who enjoys the art of making.
Enjoy the festive atmosphere while learning or improving a skill and making a special piece of art!
